Director, Member Relations and Learning Programs

The director has two key roles at LACEPS: 1) Develop and maintain deep relationships with staff at member charter organizations, and 2) Develop a high-quality program for adult learners to engage in communities of practice around multiple topics that spur learners’ and their networks’ growth and development in key areas of charter school academics, operations, and advocacy. The ideal candidate will have experience in program design and implementation for adult learners and will be excited about the prospect of building deep relationships with staff across LACEPS’ member schools.

About LA Coalition for Excellent Public Schools (LACEPS)

LACEPS is an alliance of successful L.A.-based nonprofit charter public school networks representing more than 54,000 students in over 107 schools all over Los Angeles, including South Los Angeles, East Los Angeles, Downtown, and the San Fernando Valley, and serve a diverse population of students with varying abilities and individualized needs. LACEPS members work collaboratively to ensure that all students and families in Los Angeles have the ability to choose and attend an excellent public school.

We accomplish these goals through high-quality communities of practice that build relationships among staff at member networks. In turn, those united staff, together with families, build their influence with elected officials and community organizations around LA in order to effect needed change for high-needs students and families.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you would work closely with the Executive Director to support on key member programs:

Deepen relationships between coalition members’ staffs and LACEPS

  • Get to know key members of charter networks’ staff
  • Regularly meet with members to learn about their challenges and needs and how
  • LACEPS can best support them

Facilitate the design and operations of communities of practice

  • Support the ED to develop a set of communities of practice that both meet the urgent needs of coalition members and advance LACEPS mission and advocacy aims
  • Support the ED to identify and hire external consultants to serve as experts in the diverse areas of the communities of practice
  • Work closely with external consultants to ensure that communities of practice utilize best practices for teaching adult learners
  • Set learner outcomes for each community of practice in collaboration with external consultants
  • Develop a system for tracking attendance, learner outcomes, and communications with attendees
  • Design and implement surveys throughout the school year to assess attendees’ learning and their reactions to the communities of practice

Plan quarterly events

  • Manage the operations and logistics for quarterly events for staff at LACEPS
  • networks (about 100 participants) to meet in-person, build relationships, learn
  • together, and host communities of practice 

Support ED on special projects

  • Project manage key projects and initiatives

Qualifications

  • Firmly held belief in the power of charter schools to change the life trajectories of their students by providing high-quality schools that meet the needs of all students
  • Ability to quickly build relationships – friendly, positive, funny
  • Project-management experience
  • Experience working with charter schools, either as a staff member or a key partner
  • Experience designing and implementing programs for adult learners
  • Knowledge and experience of learning program design, including developing outcomes, scope, and sequence; creating lesson plans; tracking learner progress; and meeting the needs of diverse learners
  • Agility and flexibility to make changes to programs to meet the changing needs of the environment
  • Basic proficiency in event management, including securing locations, sending invitations and tracking RSVPs, and planning small details to make the event flow smoothly
  • Experience leading a charter school or working as a home office staff member at a CMO (preferred)
  • Spanish-language bilingual (preferred)

Compensation and Benefits

  • $100,000 – $130,000, depending on qualifications and experience
  • Flexible paid time off, accrued at a rate of 25 days per year
  • 13 paid holidays per year
